Trends in customization of tile murals
There is a growing trend in adding tile murals to the home, especially in kitchen designs and in bathrooms, as well as being applied within restaurants, hotels and businesses to create the right atmosphere within these environments. People are looking to apply their own identity to their homes and work places and commercial outlets, particularly those based in modern buildings, are applying tile murals as a way of creating their own individuality. Different colors, patterns, textures and designs come together to create a huge variety of patterns which range from dainty floral designs to strikingly bold graphic designs. There are designs to suit all types of room, from Victorian period houses to ultra modern office suites. Tile murals can vary in function from kitchen and bathroom splash backs to images recreating classic paintings, cherished photographs or custom designs. Produced on ceramic tiles of varying sizes and dimensions, images can be printed onto the tiles to create a mural of the customer's choice and size. Earthenware and bisque fired tiles can be produced with images in relief. Unique custom made tile murals add a stand alone architectural feature to a space. Hand made and hand painted tile murals can be selected from mass produced ranges or may be one off designs which are produced by a specialist artist and ceramicist. Using digital art techniques almost any design can be applied to the mural tiles, including sports scenes, paintings by the Old Masters, birds and butterflies, wildlife scenes and sea life and nautical scenes. The choice of design is a very personal decision, made by the client and the end result is a highly unique product if the design is to be a one off creation. Business meeting rooms and public spaces both internal and external can all be enhanced with tile murals, depicting a scene that is relevant to its environment.

In order to maximize the available wall space in a room where a tile mural is to be placed, underfloor heating is an excellent choice to enhance the tile murals, so that the eye is not detracted by unsightly radiators. Underfloor heating is both practical and functional and has an excellent track record for good and economic performance. Heat is emitted from the floor upwards and uses water which is heated to a lower temperature than for conventional heating systems. If underfloor heating is to be installed in an existing room, it is necessary to lay the pipes underneath a timber laminate floor which is placed on top of the existing floor and so existing doors and skirting boards will require lifting to accommodate it. The same level of comfort can be achieved with temperatures being lowered by 2 degrees centigrade. There is more space to accommodate furniture with underfloor heating and in wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, floors will dry off more quickly. Wooden floors can take up to half and hour longer to heat up, compared with conventional forms of wall radiator heating systems.
