Photographs taken over 70 years ago were restored, enhanced, and arranged in 'layers' with text added. A road map and railroad map form the background (bottom layer) of the tile montage. Each individual element was selected for historical authenticity. The entire arrangement was then sized for the tile project area as determined by the Library Director of Campbell County. 5 foot by 6 foot tile mural installed in Staunton River Memorial Library
The train engines depict the Southern and Virginian Railroad lines which intersect at Altavista. The Lane Brothers Construction Company engine (with front-end hoist equipment) for laying track is also pictured.
